1. hearing,attention to what is said說話機會，傾聽發(fā)言。
△Tw.1.4.16:“stand at her doors./ And tell them,there thy fixed foot shall grow / Till thou have audi-ence.”站在她的門口，告訴他們你的兩只腳是生根了，直到能跟她見面說話時為止。
△L.L.L.5.1.144 (133):“Shall Ihave audience?”聽我說一說好嗎？
△As.3.2. 253 (238):“Give me audience,good madam.” 聽我說，好小姐。
△As.5.4. 158(151): “Let me have audience (= tobe heard) for a word or two.”請聽我說一兩句話。
2. reception 接 見。
△Ham.1.3. 92: “ and youyourself/Have of your audience been most free andbounteous. ”并且你自己也很慷慨大方地接見他。
3. admittance to a sovereign進見君主的機會。
△2H.IV.4. 1. 75: “Which long ere this we offered to theKing. / And might by no suit gain our audience.”i.e.our being heard or admitted by the King.這些意見我們很久以前就向國王提出過，但無論怎樣請求也得不到晉謁的機會。
