【慣用法】 “foot”當(dāng)作簡(jiǎn)單的尺數(shù)，或者在尺和寸的讀數(shù)中省略了“寸”的情況下，可以用foot，不用其復(fù)數(shù)形式“feet”，如：six foot (六英尺);six foot four (六英尺四)。如果是“六英尺四英寸”，要說(shuō)“six feet four inches”。另外，在復(fù)合形容詞中總是用單數(shù)“foot”，如：a twelve-foot plank (一塊12英尺長(zhǎng)的木板); 但當(dāng)foot 做副詞修飾形容詞時(shí)，如果該形容詞用來(lái)作表語(yǔ)的話，用feet，如：The path was eight feet wide. (路寬八英尺。) 如果該形容詞用來(lái)作定語(yǔ)時(shí)，形容詞與副詞修飾詞通常構(gòu)成一個(gè)復(fù)合詞，用foot，如：an eight-foot-wide path (一條八英尺寬的人行道)。
