1. speak for,argue for,allege in support or favourof,defend為…發(fā)言，為…爭辯，斷言支持…，為…辯護。
△H.V.5.2.99: “Will you vouchsafe to teach a soldier terms,/ Such as will enter at a lady’s ear,/ Andplead his love-suit to her gentle heart?”(Henry clev-erly asks Katharine to help him make his proposal ofmarriage.) 你可肯教給 一個軍人怎樣說話，才能進入小姐的耳朵，并且向她的芳心表明求愛之情？
△3H.VI.1.1. 103: “Ifnot,our swords shall plead it in the field.”否則，我們的刀劍就要在戰(zhàn)場上為它而辯護了。
△R.III.4.4.415 (414):“Plead what I will be,not what I have been,/ Notmy deserts,but what I will deserve.”為我辯護時，只要提我將來要成為什么人，不要提我過去是什么人，不要說我現(xiàn)在就有應(yīng)得之分，而要說我將來一定分所應(yīng)得。

3. put forward an argument of 提出…的論據(jù)。
