Althaea:(Gr.&Rom.myth.) mother of Meleager,prince of Calydon. She was told that her new-bornson Meleager would live as long as a brand placed bythe Fates on the fire was unburnt. So she took thebrand out of the fire to prolong her son's life. Butyears later,when he had killed her brothers,shecaused his death by throwing it back into the fire. 阿爾細(xì)亞，希臘神話(huà)中卡里頓王子墨勒格爾之母。命運(yùn)注定：墨勒格爾誕生時(shí)爐中的一根木棍一旦燒完，他即死亡。阿爾細(xì)亞將木棍抽出保存。多年以后，墨勒格爾殺死阿爾細(xì)亞的兄弟，她一怒把木棍投入火中，其子乃死。
