| 釋義 | next/nekst/ adj & adv adj (1)下一個;其次的(nearest in place，time， etc)[與the連用]：the～street/step/stage/train/meeting/station/day/morning/few days/world下一條街/下一步/下一階段/下一趟火車/下一次會議/下一站/第二天/第二天早晨/幾天以后/來世;N～to the church was a house. 與教堂相鄰的是一幢房子。I always put you～to my cousin in my mind. 我心里頭，除了我堂兄以外，再就是想著你了。I arrived first.The～to arrive was James. 我是第一個到的，我后面是詹姆斯。Miss Green was the～to speak. 緊接著講話的是格林小姐。The～time you come，bring your brother with you. 下次你來的時候，把你兄弟也帶來。The～time I see you doing this， I'll report you to the boss. 下次我再看到你干這個，我就到老板那兒告發(fā)你。 (2)緊接著來到的;下一(次、月、周等)(the first that comes after;following)[不加the]：～Monday/week/season/month/year下星期一/下周/下個季度/下月/明年;N～Friday is his birthday. 下一個星期五是他的生日。 next door 隔壁的：In the study～door，my brother was interviewing a pupil. 在隔壁的書房里我兄弟正在會見一個學生。 next door but one (隔壁)再過去一家：The hotel is～door but one to this. 從這里數第二個門是旅館。 the next best(largest，etc)僅次于最好的(最大的等)：He is the～best player on the team. 他是隊中第二位最佳選手。 next door to 1)和……隔壁：He lives～door to me. 他住在我的隔壁。2)幾乎是，近乎：The sick man was～door to death. 病人已瀕臨死亡。 as good，well，far，much，etc as the next man 和別人一樣;和一般人一樣：He could write as well as the～man. 他寫得一點都不比別人差。 adv (1)下一個，然后(immediately after in order，space，time)：What happened～? 后來發(fā)生什么事了呢? When shall I meet you～? 我們下次什么時候見? I like this best and that～. 我最喜歡這個，其次是那個。Tom is the～tallest boy in the class. 湯姆是班上第二高的男孩。 next to 1)緊挨著：She sat～to him on the sofa. 她緊挨著他坐在沙發(fā)上。2)僅次于，除……外：New York is the largest city～to London. 紐約是僅次于倫敦的最大城市。3)幾乎：So vast a sum，all in actual cash，seemed～to incredible. 這么一大筆錢，而且全是現款，簡直令人難以相信。 【用法】nearest 和next的不同。next指一系列事件或地方中的下一個，如：What is your next plan? (你的下一個計劃是什么?) 而nearest指時間和地點上最近的，如：Where is the nearest post office? (最近的郵局在哪兒?) 注意nearest to 和next to的區(qū)別，前者指“最靠近”，后者指“旁邊”。如：She's standing nearest to the window. (她站得離窗子最近。) She's standing next to the window. (她站在窗子的旁邊。) |
