1. confession made to a priest懺悔。
△Rom.1.1.163(158):“I would thou wert so happy by thy stay / Tohear true shrift.”i.e. I hope you enjoy such good for-tune by staying. as to hear a truthful confession fromRomeo. 但愿你留在這兒能交好運(yùn)，聽到他的真情吐露。
△Rom.2.4.193(179):“Bid her devise / Some meansto come to shrift this afternoon，”請她今天下午設(shè)法出來做懺悔。
△Rom.2.5.66:“Have you got leave to go toshrift to-day?”你今天得到允許去做懺悔嗎？
△ Rom.4.2.15: “See where she comes from shrift with merrylook.”看她已經(jīng)做完懺悔，高高興興回來了。

do one's shrift: hear one's confession and give abso-lution,complete one's religious rites聽取懺悔并給予赦免，完成宗教儀式。
