重要的食用魚(yú)和游釣魚(yú)。鱸形目鯖科，世界性分布。食魚(yú)及無(wú)脊椎動(dòng)物。體呈流線形，具兩扇背鰭。叉形尾前具一系列小鰭，可同時(shí)游動(dòng)。普通鯖(Scomber scombrus)為大西洋主要盛產(chǎn)種類，體長(zhǎng)約30厘米，上側(cè)藍(lán)綠色、下側(cè)銀白色。
